Online timetable

Internet timetable now displays free places.

SBB has made its online timetable at www.sbb.ch even more customer-friendly. When making timetable enquiries, passengers can now find out the likely seat occupancy of the service on which they wish to travel. With this additional information, train travel becomes even more comfortable. This service is also available for mobile phone and iPhone.

The online timetable at www.sbb.ch/fahrplan receives approximately 16 million enquiries per month. As well as real-time information about disruptions to services and the departure and arrival times of individual trains, the service now features details of the seat occupancy of a desired train – in both first and second class.

Expected occupancy

Picture 1: Expected occupancy.

Customers can see at a glance when they make timetable enquiries whether "Low to medium occupancy expected low to medium occupancy", "High occupancy expected high occupancy" or "Very high occupancy expected very high occupancy" is predicted on a particular service. Occupancy predictions are now available for every timetable enquiry made for SBB long-distance services at www.sbb.ch.

The first occupancy predictions are available as early as 30 days before the train departs. The anticipated spare capacity of each train is updated on a daily basis.

The new additional information at www.sbb.ch replaces the messages regarding seat occupancy that were only available for some services. The feature creates greater clarity for rail customers in deciding when to travel, and greater comfort during their journey.
