CEVA – more trains for the city of Geneva and the adjoining region.
The Cornavin–Eaux-Vives–Annemasse (CEVA) link, planned as long ago as the 19th century, might finally being built. Long-distance services will cover the Annemasse – Geneva route in only 20 minutes, and Eaux-Vives will be brought within 13 minutes of Geneva’s main station. If the voters will approve the referendum at the 29th of November 2009.
Some 910'000 people live in the city of Geneva and the surrounding region, and the population is forecast to grow to 1,100,000 by 2020. This implies that the need for mobility will also see a corresponding rise. It is important, therefore, to upgrade the infrastructure at this stage to ensure efficient public transport services in the future.
The CEVA project includes the construction of a 4.8-kilometre rail tunnel between the two existing Cornavin–La Praille and Eaux-Vives–Annemasse lines.
The preliminary project is currently being drawn up. The engineering works for the Cornavin section (Phase 1) started back in 2005, while work on the approach route to Annemasse was begun in 2006. The first trains are due to run on the line between 2010 and 2012.
The line between Eaux-Vives and the border (4 km) would be upgraded to a double-track line in the form of a covered cutting. This means that two-thirds of the new line would run in a tunnel.

There will be seven stations on this new line:
- Cornavin
- Lancy-Pont-Rouge
- Carouge-Bachet
- Champel-Hôpital
- Genève-Eaux-Vives
- Chêne-Bourg
- Annemasse
